We started by fixing one problem, repeatedly
ORA International began as a supplement importer. The recurring problem was not demand – it was that good products kept failing for reasons that had nothing to do with the product: a label that would not clear customs, a launch date promised before registration, a listing won and then lost at the next range review because nobody was reporting sell-out.
So we built the parts that kept breaking. Regulatory first, then logistics, then a field team, then the e-commerce channel, then the reporting. Each one was added because a brand partner needed it and no one else was doing it properly.
Beauty and healthy food followed the supplements, because the same buyers, the same shelves and the same compliance work applied. Fitness nutrition, fragrance and personal care came next for the same reason. Six categories is where we stand today – wide enough to be useful to a retailer, focused enough that the team actually knows the products.
Milestones
-
Stage one
Supplements, imported
A single category and a handful of principals. The commercial model was simple importing; the lesson was that importing alone does not build a brand.
-
Stage two
Regulatory brought in-house
Registration and label compliance moved from an outsourced consultant to an internal function, which removed the single biggest cause of missed launches.
-
Stage three
Healthy food and snacking added
The same grocery and pharmacy buyers were asking for better-for-you formats. Adding the category meant new storage requirements and a shorter shelf-life discipline.
-
Stage four
Beauty and cosmetics added
Prestige and pharmacy beauty brought a different execution standard – counter design, sampling and advisor training rather than shelf replenishment.
-
Stage five
Field execution and reporting
An owned field team replaced third-party merchandising, and monthly sell-out reporting became standard for every brand partner rather than a premium service.
-
Stage six
E-commerce and fulfilment
Marketplace management and single-unit pick-and-pack were brought in-house, removing a handover from the despatch cycle.
-
Stage seven
Second distribution centre
Additional ambient and temperature-controlled capacity, shortening replenishment lead times across the network.
